ICV invites supporters to a special memorial fundraiser and book launch on March 7, 2026, honouring the life, faith, and sacrifice of Shahbaz Bhatti. The $70,000 appeal funds refugee sponsorship for two persecuted Christians.

Michael D’Souza family arrives at Toronto Pearson — twenty years of persecution end in one afternoon

After two decades of Pakistani religious persecution, Michael D’Souza and his teenage daughter Rochelle arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport on December 10, 2025. For the first time in twenty years, they inhaled the scent of freedom. ICV’s eleventh family welcomed in an operational record year.

Eleven families welcomed in 2025 — an operational record year for ICV

From an Iraqi Assyrian family arriving in January to the D’Souza arrival in December, ICV welcomed eleven sponsored families across 2025 — the highest annual count in our history. Origin countries spanned Pakistan, Iraq, Eritrea, and beyond; transit countries included Thailand, Malaysia, Israel, Sri Lanka, and Turkey.

Gul Sher Murad — the driver who survived Shahbaz Bhatti’s assassination — arrives in Canada

Thirteen years after the ambush in Islamabad in which he ducked at the moment gunmen opened fire on Shahbaz Bhatti, Gul Sher Murad arrived at Toronto Pearson on July 11, 2024, sponsored by ICV. His wife and five children followed weeks later. The living witness to the martyr’s last morning is now safe in Toronto.

Sargodha protest — petition delivered to Pakistani Consul General

Following the mob attack on Nazir Masih’s home in Mujahid Colony, Sargodha, ICV and the Canadian Pakistani Christian community organised a protest. The Consul General of Pakistan received the petition for onward transmission to Islamabad.

Tabeeta Gill family arrives in Toronto — the blasphemy-accused nurse now safe

Tabeeta Gill, whose 2021 blasphemy accusation in Pakistan made international headlines, arrived at Toronto Pearson with her husband Sohail and their two sons in July 2023. ICV sponsored the four-person family. Within hours of arrival, the boys were exploring their new neighbourhood. Tabeeta has since become a recurring presence at ICV gatherings.

Peter Bhatti awarded Sovereign Medal

Peter Bhatti awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers

The Sovereign’s Medal is presented by Lieutenant Governor Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell on behalf of the Governor General of Canada at a ceremony at the Aga Khan Museum, Toronto. Mr. Bhatti is one of six volunteers honoured.
