Tabitha Gill : Wrongly Accused of Blasphemy

Tabitha Gill, Christian a nurse and gospel singer, was falsely accused of committing blasphemy against Islam

International Christian Voice is deeply troubled by the recent news of false accusations of blasphemy leveled at a Christian woman, Tabitha Nazir Gill, in Karachi, Pakistan. y Tabitha Gill, a nurse, was falsely accused of committing blasphemy against Islam on January 28 by her colleague at the Sobhraj Maternity Hospital. The allegation reportedly arose after Ms. Gill reminded her colleague to refrain from accepting money from patients, in accordance with the hospital’s regulations. Having accused her of blasphemy, Ms. Gill’s colleague proceeded to incite violence against her, leading to other staff members allegedly tieing up and beating Ms. Gill before she was taken into police custody.

Fortunately, the police found no viable evidence that Tabitha Gill had committed blasphemy in their investigation and released her from their custody. Two of her Muslim colleagues have also attested to the fact that she did not in any way commit blasphemy and was simply doing her job. She and her family are now in hiding due to the imminent threats they face from violent mobs.

False accusations of blasphemy are commonplace in Pakistan. We see time and again that there is often no basis for such allegations and that the blasphemy laws are used to threaten, oppress, and persecute religious minorities in Pakistan. It is far too easy for accusations to be made, leading to the senseless torturing and, in many cases, the murder of innocent civilians. Those who make such significant accusations falsely must be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We request your prayers for Tabitha Gill and her family, that she might quickly recover from her injuries and that their family might find security and respite at this challenging time.
