Questions
we get often.
If yours isn’t here, write to us — we’re always expanding this list. And if an answer surprises you, that may be a sign we need to explain it better publicly.
Is ICV a registered Canadian charity? Can I get a tax receipt?
Yes. International Christian Voice is a registered charitable organisation under the Canada Revenue Agency, and we are authorised to issue official tax receipts for all donations of $20 or more made from within Canada.
Receipts are issued in the calendar year of your donation, following CRA guidelines. If you don’t receive yours within six weeks of donating, email us and we’ll resend it.
What does it cost to sponsor a refugee family through ICV?
Costs follow the IRCC Cost Table for Sponsorship Agreement Holders and vary by family size, age of children, and province of settlement. A single refugee typically requires approximately $16,000–$20,000 for a twelve-month sponsorship; a family of five can run $40,000 or more.
Our current 2026 appeal — to rescue two victims of religious persecution — aims to raise $70,000 to cover both men’s full first year in Canada, including housing, food, healthcare, legal processing, and integration support.
How does cosponsorship work? Can our church get involved?
Absolutely — and churches are our most important cosponsor partners. Here’s how it works: ICV holds the federal Sponsorship Agreement Holder status with IRCC, meaning we can submit refugee sponsorship applications directly. Your church partners with us as a cosponsor, sharing the financial responsibility and providing the on-the-ground welcome, home furnishing, and first-year support.
We’ve cosponsored with congregations across Canada — from Christ Church Brampton and Weston Road Church in Toronto to Richmond Emmanuel Church in Vancouver and The City Church in Winnipeg. Email info@icvcanada.org to start the conversation.
I’m persecuted in my home country — can ICV help me?
We will do everything we can. But there are some important facts you should understand before writing to us.
ICV sponsors refugees through Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program, which requires that you are already outside your home country (for example, in Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, Pakistan, or wherever you have fled) and that UNHCR has recognised you as a refugee. We cannot assist individuals who are still inside their country of persecution, nor can we guarantee any application will succeed — the final decision rests with the Canadian Government.
If you meet these criteria, write to us in confidence at info@icvcanada.org, including: your current country, family situation, UNHCR status if any, and a brief summary of your circumstances. We read every message.
How can I make a donation? What payment methods do you accept?
You can donate in several ways: cheque (payable to “International Christian Voice” — email us at info@icvcanada.org and our team will reach out to coordinate the mailing details with you); Interac e-Transfer (to support@icvcanada.org); or online via our website.
Tax receipts are issued automatically for donations of $20 or more within Canada. We are also happy to help with legacy giving, memorial gifts, or corporate donations — just write to us and we’ll arrange the right path.
Where does my donation actually go?
Every dollar donated to ICV goes directly into one of our three programs: refugee sponsorship (housing, food, healthcare, legal fees, integration support for sponsored families), disaster & emergency relief (field response like the Jaranwala aid distribution or Turkey earthquake support), or Voice of the Voiceless advocacy (travel to conferences, UN engagement, ReachOut church presentations).
ICV is volunteer-led — we don’t pay executive salaries. Operational overhead is kept deliberately low so that the overwhelming majority of contributions reach the people they’re meant to help.
How do I volunteer? Do I need to be in the GTA?
Most of our in-person volunteer work — airport pickups, home furnishing, community welcomes — happens in the Greater Toronto Area, since that’s where our operational base and most cosponsor churches are located. But we also welcome remote volunteers for translation, administrative support, event planning, and social-media work.
Email info@icvcanada.org with a few lines about your skills and availability, and Noel Fernandis or a team member will be in touch.
Can I invite Peter Bhatti to speak at our church or event?
Peter Bhatti regularly addresses congregations, universities, advocacy events, and interfaith conferences in Canada, the US, and internationally. Speaking invitations are reviewed case-by-case based on scheduling, topic fit, and travel logistics.
To request a speaking engagement, email info@icvcanada.org with details of your event — date, location, audience, topic focus, and any honorarium or travel support available. We aim to respond within a week.
